A Letter to Zoloft, Sultan of the Imbibed

by Deborah S Regan

Greetings,
from the Planet of Despair
Numb me, oh fruit of the pharmaceutical companies! transform me into a model
of citizenry!

As we condemn self-medication
(unless Eli-Lily profits)
As we condemn self-medication
bending now unto the wills of others

Who hold the doctors by their own stethoscopes
Who hold the patient's minds through advertising
Who hold the FDA by the purse-strings
Who hold the lives of the elderly without compassion for their standard of living

thank you, mighty Zoloft
You are Sultan of all you survey

mine would be something like 'lithium lover, you hold me down, and force me into stillness.'
