The Unmarked Grave by Rhodora M FitzgeraldIn icy waters, deep and silent...
beneath a velvet sky,
The stars dimmed as the clouds came in
and cast shadows upon a beautiful ship.
The storm blew in, upon an unsuspecting crew,
and no one knew... precisely what to do.
In gusts of wind and rushing water...
the mighty vessel floundered.
Lightening threatened, and thunder roared
as the weary team surrendered.
The defenseless craft did dive, plunging,
destined to the ocean floor.
And as the ship was swallowed;
many helpless souls descended
to their unmarked graves,
while the hostile waters meshed,
and sealed the desolate tomb. 12/27/2001 Posted on 12/27/2001 Copyright © 2024 Rhodora M Fitzgerald

Posted by Adrian Calhoun on 03/09/03 at 03:07 AM Dude...I love shipwrecks. With your last name makes me think of one of my fav songs "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." Also an old family tragedy from the 1400s. Several men had been fishing and upon returning home their was sinking, people on shore thought they were happy cries of trophy fisherman, all the men drowned. Very good imagery, a vey well written poem. |
