Broken

by Leandra K Brossard

Why can't I run?
What's wrong with me?
I don't deserve this injury.

I did everything they told me to
And I ran, even seeing spots of blue.

It broke my heart, I turned to find
The shattered state of soul and mind.

They told me "run" and so I did,
I never thought it'd come to this.
That I could be hurt doing as I should
And simply running the best I could.

My own coach is no help to me
He's too busy with everyone else to bother
With one poor, pathetic injury,
So I sought out another.

"I want to know what I can do
To be able to run again."

He showed me some stretches and things to do
Before I turned and fled.

The tears came easily,
Surprisingly so
To one so removed from pain
I cried of need and hurt and fear,
My face drying in the rain.
