Heart-bound

by Leandra K Brossard

The tendrils which enbind my heart are
persistent and invasive.
They sing me into somnolence,
with their songs, sickly sweet.
They sap my strength even as I speak to call for help.

I am trapped inside myself.
I cannot, on my own, escape,
for the bindings are too firmly fixed.
I cannot extricate myself,
without help from another.
I am exhausted and much spent, and yet,
If you came I would be content
to stay with you ’til I no longer needed aid, and longer,
if you would permit me to remain.
