If I told you that I hate you,
would you say you hate me too?
Or would you tell me that,
you can’t hate me like I do you?

If I tell you I don’t like you,
would you say you don’t like me?
Or would you say you can’t,
dislike a girl like me?

If I told you just to go away,
would you do that for me?
Or would you only stay there,
just to bother me?

If I told you that I love you,
would you say you love me too?
Or would you tell me that,
you can’t love me as I do you?

If I told you that you are my friend,
would you say that you are mine?
Or would you tell me that,
you could not be a friend of mine?

If I knew all the answers,
then I would not have to ask,
and I would not have to bear,
such a burdensome task.
