spin off [in the fast lane]

by Rachelle Howe

do you remember
that day in the car
when we spoke
of the future
and how good it was
to feel safe again?

i'm sure you do,
but this time,
it isn't me
behind the drivers seat.

so go...
take a ride; spin off,
peel,
leaving black marks
on the pavement

(the same ones you left
on my back.)

Author's Note: when i was in california with my ex girlfriend, she and i were on the highway, and took an "opportunity corner." she ended up peeling out, and from this memory, i spawned these words.

this poem rocks! i love the carefree manner in which you've written it in contrast to the deeper thought underneath...
