The Baby King

by Mary Ellen Smith

A babe lay in a manger
A most unlikely bed.
The hay gathered most lovingly
And placed under His head.

Wrapped in swaddling clothing
To keep away the chill,
A beautiful most wondrous child
Sent here to do God's will.

The animals are silent
This gentle moment sweet.
As angels gather praising Him
To worship at His feet.

And up above a star shines bright
A light to all who seek.
Salvation comes to all the world,
In this newborn, so meek.
