Awakening by Betania TeschShe awakens,
the earthmother smearing
her orangepink bosom
over morning's sheeted skybed
soft smudges simmer
under a blue blanket memory
and she drowns in the past
as her colours fade
pounding purple patched billows
against her celestial cell.
She is caught in the nets
of day and night
eyes opened twice a day
showing her skyshine colours
awakening with a purplepinkorangeyellow
vivid coloured day dream
but never lasting long
before the blueblack steals her moment. 12/21/2001 Posted on 12/21/2001 Copyright © 2025 Betania Tesch

Posted by Richard Paez on 11/03/02 at 09:21 PM A poem who's beautiful content is matched only by its beautiful diction. Here your use of color is exceptional, truly a painting rendered in words. World-day-cycle as individual-life-cycles... the speaker inked in both specific and universal hues... poems in this vein have been written before, I'm sure, but you bled this in unique sky-cloud-patterns. Excellent poem, Beth! Thank you for sharing it! |
