Mental Age by Betania TeschI am older now
and they are measuring me
with sticks and hands and IQ tests
and they are defining me
by what they think they know
based on guesses and
half-hearted assumptions.
I am an equation and numbers
to the rest of the world
put forth as statistical data,
a face made of charts and graphs.
So, I do not speak to them
and I do not answer the questions
with more than they ask
because my age is one of silence
and my life is one I need not share.
My measurement is made from within
with no significant data to anyone
but myself, and me, and I.
I am older now.
I can feel it in my bones,
but if you need a number
take hydrogen times pi
and divide by the number of starry-eyed poets. 12/19/2001 Posted on 12/19/2001 Copyright © 2024 Betania Tesch
