The lizard brain,
Having now withdrawn its troubling thrust,
Equanimity returns to my once-fevered spirit

The higher self, having had its power overcome, once again,
Struggles to regain its self-respect
By streams of rationalizations:

Well, that's behind me now (I think)
I've learned my lesson (I hope)
I'm a wiser person now,
I'm a more balanced person
I'll never let that happen again
