Crush

by Richard Vince

Through this faded world I make my way
And the callous urban glow overshadows
All but the brightest of stars

And I am cold, I know
Callous and uncaring
And you would have to dig down deep
To ever find a heart in me
Or maybe never find one at all
Just emptiness...
My emptiness that is eternal
Emptiness of stone

The leaves are crushed beneath my feet
As many hearts have cracked
Under the weight of my selfishness...

I should cease to walk.

Souls fall around me
Breaking into tiny fragments
And I just walk over the dust
And hear it crunch beneath my feet
But I can't stop the destruction

So onward I walk...
Crushing someone with every step
And hoping that every step
Will be my last.

You draw a dark, harsh picture of betrayal and depression, a cynical view of life. Concrete actions to match the mood or create the oppresive mood.
