Conceiving Phoenix

by D. Xavier Bari

Just before she

burst
into
flames

She looked

dead
at
me

and said...

"How
could
you?

I thought you

loved
me,
too..."

I wanted to be sad for the "she" in this poem, but then I though 'Ah, but as a pheonix, she will rise again, reborn in the ashes.' Somewhat resolves the guilt or sadness this poem might otherwise express.
