Elegy for George (The Quiet One) by Bruce W Niedt
I want to tell you,
you were really something,
all those years ago,
when you were fab.
We got our minds set on you,
and your three best mates.
For a while they eclipsed you,
the dark horse,
but then here came the sun.
You gave us love, gave us peace on earth,
the Concert for Bangladesh.
We loved you for a long, long, long time,
and you shone, despite the assaults,
within you, without you
the sue-me-sue-you blues,
the cancer, the knife-crazy fan.
In the end, it was all too much.
But what is life?
All things must pass.
All worries are behind you now
the taxman, the piggies.
While your guitar gently weeps,
youre leaving the material world
to be with your sweet Lord.
