black candle

by Holly H Dunne

black candle stood alone
admired but not touched
smooth, beautiful, unique
flickering flame danced and sparkled
warmth grew stifling, melt, melt
tears of wax drip
water falls on the mishapen melted candle
the flame is almost out
then shaking hands relight the match
but the wick is black
still it burns but not so bright
last shuddering breath blows out the candle flame
