Those Eyes

by Adrian Calhoun

I once knew a lass with blazing eyes.
She danced upon the trees fallen leaves,
she laughed under the midnight sky.

For her eyes were as sapphires,
brightly blazing blue.
Those eyes showed innocence,
and in a moments passing,
those eyes could display rage,
greater than the sea.

Stars handpicked from the heavens were her eyes.
Set gently into her goddess face.

As years came and went, as timed marched on,
the face and hands showed age,
her body grew weaker.
Yet, the eyes never for one minute dimmed,
as diamonds in the moonlight they sparkled.

When lifes harsh north wind blew bitterly cold,
her heart breaking, as her life was ending.
And yet, the fire in her eyes vibrantly burned on.

I saw her passion for life,
all of her love,
and for a brief moment,
I once again saw that innocent lass.

All from those eyes!

You've vividly described a person by the look in her eyes--traced her life through those eyes. Eyes certainly can "speak volumes"!
