Confused by multiplicity

by Anne Howe

Who are you?
I mean who am I speaking to today?
Yesterday you were 'normal'
But today you are well, different
Who are you today?
I know our tastes in many things are different
That's just a foible for which I love you
But what I mean is
Who are you today and where have you been whilst you were here?

The kiss has no passion
There is something of which you are afraid
I ask; I really want to know
But yet it is as if you're unaware of why you are afraid
You tell me it is not rejection
But as you stand beside me, where are you?

I like it when you are a twit
I'm not and that's the best of it
The sharing
Knowing you and being an audience to your pageants
But who are you today which fragment am I observing?

I tell you I love you
I take you by the hand
But some days it's as though you're in a foreign land
Miles away from where we sit together
Who are you today?
