The Heart Knows

by Rhodora M Fitzgerald

I don't know why the wind changes directions
from time to time...
only that I'm glad it does.

I don't understand exactly how the sun
reflects such warmth upon my skin...
just that it feels great.

I don't pretend to know
how the clouds contain the rain...
only that showers are so refreshing.

I don't even think I realize,
just how DOES darkness fall...
only that without it
would we ever find time to rest?

My feeble mind can't grasp the thought
that God loves me without a doubt...
yet my heart faithfully knows it's true.

And I can't comprehend why
we try to reason with our heads...
when the mind will never understand
what the heart already knows!
