When Darkness Falls.... Do Angels Sleep? by Rhodora M FitzgeraldWhen darkness falls... Do angels sleep?
The world seems at peace tonight,
beneath a starlit sky;
with the soothing song of the whip-poor-will...
as nature's lullabye.
And in the midst of darkness,
few things are as pleasing to the eye...
as the mysterious silent discourse
of the flickering firefly.
It's as though all earthly woes are lost
in the moon's reflection upon the lake...
Wholesome thoughts obscure the wicked,
no hesitation, the latter to forsake.
The trees lift up their arms in awe
to the heavens... there's no mistake,
they're wanting, in noble steadfastness
of it's goodness to partake.
And yet, beneath the blackened sky...
I cannot from wondering keep;
Is the world just falsely blinded
by tranquil waters of deep?
Tonight... the world seems pacified...
and yet I'm not assured;
Do the heavens, in silent solitude,
feel anguish, mourn and weep?
And as I, in slumber, rest my eyes...
secretly, I need to know,
Though evil taunts the souls of men...
