Talk to the Trees

by Rhodora M Fitzgerald

When the shadows in your mind get heavy
and the echoes of your heart grow loud,
And you find yourself feeling deserted
amidst the thickness of a crowd.
When you feel as though you're suffocating
beneath some gloomy unseen shroud,
And the only one who understands you
is the maker of the clouds...
Then talk to the trees.....

Tell the trees...
what it is that weights your soul
and let it's leaves absorb your worry.
Humble yourself beneath its sheltering branches
and feel your troubles scurry.
Whisper your darkest secrets
and know they'll, with the roots, stay buried.
Hurl your angers at it's trunk
and feel it's strength consume your fury.

Confide in a tree....
and know that it will listen,
while promising never to reveal you
as it inscribes into its own veins
your secretive admissions.

Talk to the trees....
and trust that pages ripped
from weighted Autumn bough
pledge never to return,
thus sealing sacred vow.
