Pink

by Richard Vince

The Sun shines…
And strands of light
Are falling lazily through the windows
Giving second birth to colour
Colour which went AWOL years ago

But here, I am the only one
To appreciate it at all
A patch of purity
In this dirty old city

In between old factories
And walls of graffiti
There is a light shining
Reminding me why we have light at all

She is the only star in this dark sky…
Granting hope that morning will come

The clouds are here…
But serve not to stem the summer
Or the innocence
Right in front of my eyes

And life takes on a newness…
A light all of its own
But only on extended loan…
As long as the colours remain

She wears a rainbow in her hair…
A mirror of the Sun
And all the brightness in the world

Strange yet familiar…
The way my memories awoke
When I saw the colour in front of my eyes
Colour of innocence
Colour of youth

And as the time continues to drip away
This colour will remain
Forever in my memory…
