Shotgun Shell in the Parking Lot by Ryan M EvonShotgun shell in the parking lot
Been there for I don't know how long
Rust covers the once silver butt
Plastic stained from the dirt and rain
Who fired off a shotgun in the parking lot
And at what were they firing
I imagine a dark, rainy night
Rain drops and the wet cement shine
From the overhead lot lights
Also glistening, the wet leater jacket
Of a man walking through the lot
Rain drops roll off the gun barrel
As he carries it, ready to fire
Soaked hair lays flat on his head
Hanging slightly onto his forehead
Flames stand out in his eyes
Some anger has pushed him too far
Racking the shotgun, he bares his teeth
Holding it straight up in the air
A scream rips free from his mouth, he fires
The blast echoes off surrounding buildings
He stands frozen for a moment
Racks the shotgun again, expelling the shell
It falls slowly and hits the wet cement
He walks away into the darkness
Not surprised that no one noticed 11/13/2001 Posted on 11/13/2001 Copyright © 2025 Ryan M Evon
