Always a mother's child

by Anne Howe

My child, I behold your radiant face
A special dew adorns your youthful cheeks
You are my little girl
Become a young woman

Where has time gone?
And where will time lead you?
What will adulthood hold?
Surprises, sorrows
Both certainty and uncertainty

You are your own unique person
I am proud of what you have become
And where you are going

When you are the age that I am now
And I enter the twilight of my life
You will still be my little girl
I shall always be grateful
For the gift of your birth
