wallflower by Mary Ellen Smith
demure.
she sits
neatly combed
so carefully pressed.
alone and shy
against the flowered
wallpaper dressed.
proper.
folded,
white pearl
clasped gloves in her lap.
dancing sweet
inside her shoes,
her toes do tap.
smiles
hopeful
she holds her breath.
just for a chance.
ribbons of music
he bows and says,
"care to dance?"
