mine seems to me to be the natural state

by Ronald A Pavellas

I can no longer write of agony
There was a turning point in recent years
My soul, my spirit and my mind are free
Of past regrets, a poet said, and fears.

I marvel at the others still engaged
With miseries and unfulfilled desires.
Where does their energy derive, enraged!?
How gather they the fuel for all their fires?

Mine seems to me to be the natural state,
As lifted bodily above the clouds
Of envy, acquisition, pain and hate;
I now avoid the man who seeks his shroud.

What fuels me now to wake and work and play?
I know that I shall live and love this day.
