I need to filter my thoughts
I need to stuff them through
a juicer and strain away
the Nietzchist pulp
I need to get away
from friends who know my secrets
and dance with a stranger
as we stare up at the full moon
of Samhain
in more silence than separates
her from us
and then celebrate the New Year
in proper fashion
I need to laugh at nothing
to laugh not because it's
clever and witty and
makes reference to Carl Sagan
or alludes to apocryphal texts
but to laugh simply because
the night inspires me to mirth
to laugh simply because
someone's there to laugh with
someone who doesn't know
why I laugh
but laughs with me anyway
someone who will sit
and enjoy the night and
watch Diana's dance across the cosmos
because it's there to watch
