Halloween, Long Ago by Ryan M EvonDressed as a viking
My cheap red costume
Cheap plastic mask, whimpy rubber band
My sister and I
Running between car and house
Getting the most candy
That we could manage
Mom drove us in the Celebrity
Fall was the start of Dad's
Most busy time of year, winter
People needed propane to be warm
Dad kept other people warm
But wasn't always around for me
I didn't mind, I missed him
But knew he was working
The crotch on my cheap red costume
Ripped, exposing my pants to the cold
Both mother and sister laughed
I smiled, 'cause dad would have
Been laughing too. 10/30/2001 Posted on 10/30/2001 Copyright © 2025 Ryan M Evon
