Mother's Moment (lullabye for my mom)

by Nicole D Gregory

There was a moment
when I knew you were coming
~so I prepared the clouds~
to lay you down into gently

There was a moment
when I knew to expect you
~so I held out my fingers~
to soften the winds
to a breeze for rocking

There was a moment
when I was the only one who knew
about you and the secret was ours
so I whispered
~I love you~
before the world could take that moment

With expectation
With anticipation
With adoration

I gave that moment a precious place
~my heart
the safe that keeps many secrets
~my heart

From so much excitement during the day
~I turned down the sun’s light~
pulled up the dusk all around
and tucked you in tightly
~brought down the shades of evening
to surround you with quiet restfulness

For soon you shall go out into the world
~a dedication of a bigger picture
I am yet unaware of;
but all that I know about you
~I will keep safe~

So soon go forward

With expectation
With anticipation
With adoration

I gave you a precious place
~my heart
All that I love about you
~I knew this is what I was meant to be~
life before was ordinary
until you gave me
~a reason
~a purpose
~my heart

Without you I never knew
there was such a world
surrounding us
~that needed to be learned
~that needed to be taught

Until you I never knew the great capacity
of love inside of me

So be in awe of the wonders around you
and know that with all
you are amazing
~my exquisite creation
for you are
~my heart

Hi Nicole, Great write. Breathtaking indeed. It's beauitful, yet kinda sad too. It's loving and caring. I added this to my favorites list.
