Jesus in Blue Jeans -- a prose poem

by Meredith C Hartwell

I met God on a mountain and he looked tired. Jesus hasn't aged a bit since the Resurrection, but the blue jeans suit Him better than the loin cloth ever did. The bright colors of His Hawaiian print shirt kind of brought out His eyes. Christ seemed restless, doing cartwheels in the clouds and complaining about being grounded.

"2000 years here! He won't even let me see Earth, let alone visit!" God told His Son to keep it down - He was giving Him a headache. "Sinless!" Jesus hissed, trying to keep a secret from God. "Sinless! I swear! I don't even know what I did wrong!"

The Lord pretended not to notice, handed me argyle socks, and asked me to change the world. "I have to let Him go back eventually," He whispered, gesturing to Jesus. "At least make the place presentable."

The socks would let me walk on water, but I preferred to dance.

Not sure what you are getting at in this porse poem. Making light of the mystery of the Godhead? Questioning Christ's purity? The writer of the Hebrews says the Christ was fully in God. John wrore that Christ was in the beginning and there was nothing made that was made without him. More than that Christ came into the world to "save the lost" and is coming again. Well, maybe that is all implied in your poem or ???

He couldn't change the world so he can't come back. If you work hard and learn to maneuver with those socks you might have a better chance! At least you have TV and the internet to work with. Nice write. Good luck.
