My worth in pounds

by Vikki Owens

I see the numbers slide
down,
I count my worth in pounds...

Plastic face
I am nothing with out a scale beneath
my feet,
without my waist
with out my less
and thinner
skin and bones.

I see the numbers drop
by days...
120, 115, 112...
like numbers prove
that I can be loved
that Im ok
if I can weigh myself
at 110.

And its all beautiful
if I can make you
believe
Im not standing
on my weights and measures...
If I can convince you
that I'm not
making bets on numbers....
If I can promise you I am
still the
same as yesterday...

when I am still the same
as yesterday
just one pound lighter....

just one pound closer...
