Behind the eyes of the child

by Anne Howe

Fragrant gum trees overhang the pretty garden
Surrounded by the hedge

Within that garden is a beautiful house
Within the house, a child

The child comes to play on the swing
Within the garden, surrounded by the hedge

Swinging to and fro with gusto
Humming monotonically

What is within the head of the child on the swing?
Within the pretty garden, surrounded by the hedge

What beauty and sounds of nature
Does his five year old head behold?

The autistic mind within the glowing face of childhood
Swinging exuberantly: singing yesterday's tune.

You set the scene lovely.. and tie the simpleness of it to the childs mind.
