Fingerprints by Mary Ellen Smith
We leave our fingerprints behind on everything we touch.
In the giving and the taking, an imprint means so much.
For we know that we are touching more than glass or wood or steel.
Yes, it's the human heart that bares the witness to this seal.
Let our fingerprints be left on a kind deed that we do.
Remember that the words we speak are fingerprinting too.
Some prints they can be dusted and lifted out to sight,
But the prints that will be left behind are hidden from the light.
And what of the last impression we leave upon this Earth?
We'll find out in eternity what a fingerprint is worth. 10/16/2001 Posted on 10/16/2001 Copyright © 2024 Mary Ellen Smith
