Falling Asleep with Pen in Hand

on a level paper playing field:
The mind works, groggily,
pushes the hand to catch
its thoughts, unraveling
as night advances
.
Mind snaps back, awake;
eye regards hands work
in the moment when sleep
almost won the day
a single vertical line
stopped in its progress
downward.
