Pumpkin

by Mary Ellen Smith

Pumpkin from the pumpkin patch
Round, orange and unaware,
Soon you'll have a toothy smile
And bright unblinking stare.

We'll carve you oh so carefully
And set you to your task,
Of greeting all the girls and boys,
That come to you in masks.

You'll sit upon the front porch rail
A light to those you meet.
A Jack-o-Lantern friend to all,
As kids say "TRICK OR TREAT!"
