*A Not-So-Sacred Kiss: a tragedy in one act by Mainon A Schwartz
[curtain]
door [slams]
rain [patters]
engine [silence]
while he revs another.
it's your cue.
[enter] mainon
semipretty face [soaking innocence]
[cross stage left, the seat]
lips [mashing] with
less romance than pro wrestling
hands [wandering]
less sensation there than in the
pain from the audience's laughter.
thoughts [distant]
here's the [blocking]
and [action, no lights]
like a movie, it's not real
picture [fading like sunset]
time [begins]
door [slams]
rain [patters]
engine [starts]
pull away,
it's your exit.
[applause... that was it]
[take a bow]
[speech]
not even quite one year
since my lips tasted others
and trembled in shame.

a short time, what an
achievement. i don't have
much further to go.
[standing ovation]
[curtain]
crushed rose petals on the stage cover the ragged
shreds of her regret. it's over, that was the break
she needed.
