Large expanse by Travis G FinborgI walked and saw a big sky
there it was staring me in the face
a leviathon of dark blue nothing.
Out there, the white lights
reach out from golden balls
ripping with violence the hydrogen
somewhere, i saw my self
imposed on plastic greenery,
as if on a map
next to this fence
a gray fence, nothing on it
a few leaves, some grass tickling
its feet. I saw the fence, and
the lattice pattern of its shadow
it interupted my own
Im so small
I looked again and saw the paterns
of light blinking,
i think there were cars driving by
and i know it was an old, frigid day, my ears had been lost, numb
my brain still searching, thinking
they have been swallowed by the night
my hands tucked deep in my pockets
I think clear, i think without
distraction covered in the cold
And i sat, when i saw my
insignificant smallness,
when i saw i would die someday
when i saw that i would turn
to a cold corpse, and would take
nothing with me
I sat and cried on a angled curb
my tears slow and deliberate,
for minutes i sat, then i shook myself
and continued to walk
and eventually, i saw the yellow
light on her lawn,, and i knocked
her face smiled at me, I smiled
and forgot the expanse that had stared me in the face. 10/06/2001 Posted on 10/06/2001 Copyright © 2026 Travis G Finborg
