Grass

by Melanie A Bennett

The grass has stopped growing in the meadow.
The birds-they cease to sing.
Their songs have stopped cold.
The church bells no longer ring.

The flowers have wilted to the ground.
The sea is black as night.
There is no sign of life anywhere.
No human is in sight.

I am the only one,
The only one left here.
I glance around at the world that was once there.
It all has disappeared.

I look down at my feet.
I see a single blade of grass.
I then begin to cry for the world,
It's time has passed.
