A Lover, A Pal, A Friend (to J.M.)

by Melanie A Bennett

Whenever I see you coming
I search and search for air
My heart beats faster than ever
Though I am sure that you don't care

I just want you for every purpose
A lover, a pal, a friend
It's just some strange obsession
God knows when it will end

As a lover I'd want every greeting
To be the sweetest, softest kiss
I'd do anything for you
Our lives would be such bliss

As a pal I'd be there for you
And you'd be there for me
You'd always have a shoulder to lean on
Where ever you'd need me, I'd be

As a friend we'd be more than pals
You could say anything to me
I'd always understand you
It's me you'd always need

If I had to pick just one
It'd be too hard to choose
I'd feel that whatever choice I made
In some way I would loose

If I picked you for a lover
And for some reason it happened to end
I would feel I'd lost my chance
To ever be your friend

If I had you for a pal
And you had another girl
I would probably end up jealous
And end up hating the world

It would probably be the same
If I had you for a friend
Probably even worse
And harder for you to mend

My heaart ties up in knots
And I choke and search for air
Oh if only you could know
How much I truely care
