A Grandma's Lullaby

by Mary Ellen Smith

Bedtime stories and cookies
up on grandma's lap
grandma sings her little one
into a cozy nap.

but she can't seem to put her down
into her little bed.
instead she rocks her sweetly
kissing her curly head.

it seems too short, this dreamland.
and surprised to see the dawn,
grandma just smiles happily
to see her grandchild yawn.

"Sleep my little beauty.
Sleep and I'll rock thee
Sleep and stay a while more
Here, curled up with me."

Seems they grow up so fast. You catch an especially wonderful time of being a grandparent sweetly and tenderly.
