The Funny Farm

by Charles E Minshall

_________________________

We got this stony old farm
That our friends named Funny,
But it's a doggone sad farm
For bringin' in money.

We got wheat in the fields
But it's covered with rust,
The crop this year
Is really a bust.

We got an old sway back horse
And some dried up old cows,
We got pigs in the pig sty
But their barren old sows.

We got Marceu the watch dog,
That we bought on a lark,
He just goes through the motions
He never does bark.

Got us two old billy goats
But they ain't much good,
Every time we turn around
Their stompin' on a hood.

Got some scrawny old chickens
We hoped would pay,
But they just scratch and eat
They don't ever lay.

Our old barn is leaning
'Till it's ready to fall,
We won't have a barn
The next big squall.

We got some rusty old tractors
But the wheels won't turn,
Got no money for parts,
Or money to burn.

The darn Bank says no farm loan
Nor loan on my truck.
Maybe next year
We'll get us some luck.
