Your Presence in My Life

by Cathlyn Cartier

Life before you wasn't quite so complete.
You filled a void in my life.
You closed a gap in my heart.

Slowly, you helped me regain trust and confidence.
Patiently, you waited for me, and while you waited I learned more about myself.
I became a better person.

You became a calming presence,
and a strengthening resolve for me.
When life's situations were getting the upper hand and I felt that I was losing control;
You gave me reassurance and comfort in the storm.
You showed me that dreams were really worthwhile,
and gave me the encouragement to work toward them.

Right now our future is uncertain.
Suddenly, dark clouds have formed,
and the turmoil seems to be focused on my heart.
Not knowing what tomorrow may bring,
I do know that my life has been better because I have shared part of it with you.
