Half of a Lifetime

by Cathlyn Cartier

Half of a lifetime vanished.
Gone
Like the mist that disappears with the dawn.

It was there.
You could see it.
You felt it's moisture kiss your skin.
You breathed of its sweet perfume.

Half of a lifetime vanished.
Yet the memories remain.
The laughter, the tears, the joy, the sorrows, the triumphs and defeats.
Love searched for and lost,
perhaps to be found again.

Half of a lifetime gone.
But the rest of a lifetime remains...
to gather old memories together,
to cherish them for what they are, for what they have made of you,
to build new memories on the foundations of the past,
to create a stronger you.

Half of a lifetime isn't really very long.
