Parents

by Angela Hanska

You have guided me throughout my life,
Loved me for me,
You corrected me when I was wrong
Comforted me when I was hurt
You gave me strength when I was scared
Would give me the world at the drop
Of a hat if you had the power to do so
Offered advice whenever I wanted it or not
(oh, those long discussions)

You allowed me to fly, but not too much or too far or too long
you allowed me to test my wings
all the while keeping me safe
using your knowledge to guide
but allowing me to make my own mistakes

deep in my heart I know you will not be here forever, and I will miss you when you are gone. But I thank you for all you have given me.

This poem is dedicated to my parents.
