The Sword and Rose

by Scott M Pratchner

Standing on this ledge now
so frightened and unsure
with the clouds boiling over
The two spirits deep inside
guide me to the sun
and my fear ebbs like the tide

Father, oh Father
You have given me the sword
and have taught me to survive
with honor in this war
when the autumn winds cease to blow
and the sun reclaims the sky
I'll have you to thank for what I know

Mother, oh Mother
You have given me the rose
and have shown that loving acts
can also win the day
when my sword is broken through
and the ocean pulls me down
The rose will lift me back to what is true

Standing on this ledge now
so frightened and unsure
with the clouds boiling over
The two spirits deep inside
guide me to the sun
and my fear ebbs like the tide
