Last Night

by Matt Forget

We got on the bus late that night
The night of the dance
People were talking about the fun they had
I sat there quiet
A girl approached me
She smiles
"Is anyone sitting here?"
I moved to let her sit
I smile back
She looks at me closely
In my eyes
For a moment I'm confused
I realized something then
The bus began to move
We talked all the way home
We entered the driveway to the school
The bus stopped
Still sitting, she looked at me
I looked at her
I looked away suddenly
She kisses me on the cheek
And she left
That was a night I would never forget.

This is a very bittersweet poem. I hope that wasn't the last you ever heard of the girl? Sad, but potent. Good work.
