On War

by Leandra K Brossard

The men are gone
As wrong as sin
This house of cards
is falling in.

The battle is
For right they say
We know it took
Our men away.

They journeyed far
At their behest
And would not stay
At our request.

The talk of glory
Took them in
Honor twists in
Death’s foul grin.

Our war is lost,
Our leaders wrong,
Our men are dead,
All far from home.

They did not listen
Though we knew,
That our families
Would be through.

Our fathers, sons..
Our men are gone
All dead, all lost
Too far from home.

Another excellent poem. Hits too close to home for comfort. :~)
