Missed

by Leandra K Brossard

I wish that I had known before,
that which I've come to learn.
And that, somehow, I could have seen,
the passing seasons turn.

Somehow I missed the world,
as it went on it's merry way;
Too tangled and involved within
my own confusing day.

Now looking back I realise,
just what I might have missed.
And that perhaps, I should have seen,
the early morning mists.

Bright waterfalls and sun-kissed lakes,
meadows full of dew.
Butterflies and yearling sheep
with, here and there, a ewe.

Too many simple things went by,
as I, unseeing, sat
and pondered how I wished my world to be,
not knowing it was black.

Decayed, unfocused, twisted, wrong
my world that fell apart.
Everything was lost and gone,
my poor world had gone dark.
