Freelance Minion

by Leandra K Brossard

Darkness, silent, watches me,
Following my movement with it’s eyes.
Eyes of Darkness, hide themselves,
I only feel their gaze.
I sense them hovering near my ears
a tickle once I felt,
but that was all.

Mist, thick and penetrating,
heavy with unshed tears,
Swirls about as I move within it,
tugging at me, grasping.
Yet, as a child whose hands have not yet
learned the strength of years,
they cannot hold me,
and I slip away.

I wallow in my icy inner self,
relishing the chill inside.
I smile as I wend my way,
shrugging off the futile mist,
scattering the tendrils with a thought.
The eyes alone I cannot shake.
A shadow flickers across my face,
but then my smile returns.
Darkness has no power over me,
it can only watch and quail at what I’ve done.
