Coldly Told

by Leandra K Brossard

Sternly are our children told to be
still and silent, solemn, cold;
when they rightfully long to be
active, playful, cheerful, bold.
How often are they asked?
How many times must they be told?
Can they be taught to think at last?
Why are adults so very cold?
Cannot they forgive what’s past?
Does crankiness define the old?
Are we all not from one caste?
Do we all see fools for gold?
