Memorandum

by Brynn Dizack

so the christians and the pagans sat together at the table...

Trials and tribulations are known all too well
As the spiraling backwards mind rears its ugly head to sneer at those less understood
What is fear if there is no bravery?
If people fear what they do not understand
And understanding something infinitley brands that something as boring,
How can we win in today’s society?

See Dick run. See Dick play. See Dick give flowers to his pretty girlfriend
who slits her wrists when he goes out with other girls
because she just can’t take it anymore,
[ Don’t tell Jane he’s gay. ]
See Dick feed his dog, Spot, and give him toys to play with
See Spot win the lottery and say he’s never seen Dick in his life.

Eight year old minds left sputtering with nonsense of fantasy characters that prove useless in the real world
(150, can you catch ‘em all?)
Don’t bother buying that toy that everyone wants.
The batteries will give her cancer Feed her an apple instead of a candy bar;
Let the pesticides sprayed on to keep the bugs away burn away at her insides;
Yeah, that’s good for her.
Does an upside down cross offend you? Does it?
Perhaps an inverted pentagram might faze you too,
(that is, if you didn’t look at a rightside up one and feel funny.)
Where’s the difference in a man who died for his people than a Lady who lives for her children ?
In the forest, in the river, in the trees.
Are you afraid? Why should you be?
It’s no different than your hippie days, you know, beads and flowers
…and being one with the, uh, planet.

See Jane Witch. See Jane Witch run.
See Jane Witch go to college,
and wash her clothes just like you do
And try to manage the bills and the groceries and drive her kids to soccer games.
See Father Dick shoot her down
and cast images of her on the fronts of Halloween decorations
for being who she is.

Oh, wait, Dick can’t be a Reverend.
He’s gay.
