The Rainbow

by Rick Hamrick

The rainbow—fully formed and doubled
Shows itself as the storm recedes
It looks like it’s preening and strutting
In place… not moving, yet so alive

My rainbow, your rainbow… one made for all of us
The vibrant colors striking our eyes
Without once becoming too much to see
Living so briefly, fading as it dies

(chorus)
You can’t capture the rainbow
It lives on its own, all its own
You can’t capture the rainbow
It tires of awing, and it’s gone

Seek the peace and light of the rainbow
Look at the life so fleeting
See our lives as our own rainbow
Be a rainbow, and live knowing we’ll be meeting

(CHORUS)
